Summary of Education and Experience:
Dr. Schaefer received his B.Sc. in Biology from McGill University in 1981. He received his M. Sc. (entitled - Fire and woodland caribou: an evaluation of range in southeastern Manitoba) in 1987, and his Ph.D. from the University of Saskatchewan in 1995.
Dr. Schaefer worked from 1994 to 1998 as Senior Wildlife Biologist (Labrador) for Newfoundland & Labrador Wildlife Division, then as Assistant Professor and later Associate Professor of Biology at Trent University from 1998 to the present.
Dr. Schaefer has done extensive research of caribou populations, behavior and conservation in Manitoba and elsewhere in Canada, including publication of numerous articles relating directly to caribou in refereed journals.
Presentation Areas:
Caribou biology and management pertaining to the proposed Wuskwatim hydroelectric project and transmission corridors in central Manitoba. The primary focus is on those EIS sections applicable to woodland caribou.
